SkateABLE™ is lead by HIGH FIVE® certified program leaders. The coach to skater ratio depends on the needs of each skater and will range from 1:1 to 1:3. Trained volunteers assist the coaches in ensuring a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment from the moment the skater’s and their families enter the rink.
SkateABLE™ coaches undergo an intensive screening process prior to working with skaters. In addition to holding various teaching/coaching certifications, they also participate in a one day adaptive skating coach course, followed by completion of up to 30 hours of mentorship during the program. Part of the training includes disability awareness and behavioral management techniques, adaptive equipment training, and technical skills training.
Our dedicated volunteers also undergo a screening process including a police record check.
All head coaches are First Aid/CPR/AED and NCCP certified.
