SkateABLE™ offers a unique opportunity for all persons with disabilities to learn how to skate through the use of adaptive skating equipment, including skating walkers and harnesses specifically designed for the SkateABLE program and manufactured right here in Ontario.

All SkateABLE™ leaders have been specially trained on how to fit and use each piece properly and safely.

Skater’s are provided the use of adaptive equipment at no extra charge. All skater’s will be evaluated and fitted for proper equipment prior to the first class.

helmetAll skaters in the SkateABLE™ program are required to wear a Canadian Standards Association (CSA) approved hockey helmet. No other type of helmet will be acceptable, even if it is CSA approved. Hockey helmets are tested for protection against falls on ice and are able to withstand multiple impacts.

Helmets should be inspected regularly for cracks, scratches on the shell or wear and tear of the liner. If any other damages are found, the helmet should be replaced.

For the SkateABLE program it is recommended that children under the age of 12 wear a CSA certified full facial protector that is properly attached to their helmet because they are more likely to fall forward.

Skaters are required to provide their own CSA approved hockey helmets
